Signs of His Coming: Part 2

Signs
of His Coming
Three
"When-dicators" of Christ'sReturn
Part
Two
by Brad Sherman
     Tragedy, wars,
and natural disasters commonly cause people to begin thinking that Christ's
coming is near. However, this is a very subjective means of interpreting
the times and has proven over and over again through history to be misleading
and even damaging to the reputation of the Church.
     Part One of this
series also pointed out that we must not attempt to set dates for the Lord's
coming according to clocks and calendars. The Bible simply does not...

Your View of the Future Affects You Now

Your
View of the Future
Affects
You Now
by Brad Sherman
Why Polish Brass on a Sinking Ship?
     As expected,
the previous Purpose Perspective article, Peace
On Earth, raised a few questions. A primary point of the article was
that many of today's Christians only see things getting worse and worse,
believe this is supposed to happen, and thus disconnect from their biblical
responsibility to be a positive influence in this world. Though it is not
always the case, such a view of the future, can cause Christians to have
a...

Peace On Earth

Peace
on Earth
Is
It Part of Your World View?
by Brad Sherman
The Paradox of Peace
As we enter the Christmas season, we will
undoubtedly see and hear the common phrase that accompanied the birth of
Christ; "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward
men" (Luke 2:14). What a wonderful thought: peace on the whole planet and
people acting in good will toward one another! Yet wars continue and we
have not yet seen peace on earth. In fact, Jesus Himself said,...

Your Ministry Responsibility: Part Two

Your
Ministry Responsibility
Part Two
by Brad Sherman
This is part two
of an article based on the statement, "My ministry can only extend
as far as my prayers." We are focusing on two key words in
this statement, ministry and prayers. In part one we looked
at ministry, and pointed out that we are all called to do ministry.
In this part, we will focus on prayers.
Prayers
Yes, we are all
called to ministry, but...

Your Ministry Responsibility: Part One

Your
Ministry Responsibility
Part One
by Brad Sherman
     Recently I was
reminded of a simple but profound concept that I heard long ago. My
ministry can only extend as far as my prayers. I'd like to focus
on two key words in this statement, ministry and prayers.
Ministry
     How you view
yourself in this world has a direct affect on how you engage the culture.
It is part of your world view. So I will make a very direct statement:
All Christians are called to do ministry. Yet many...

Three Ways to Lose Your Freedom

Three
Ways to Lose Your Freedom
by Brad Sherman
     We are a nation
at war. However, the war I am talking about is not the war on terror being
fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places around the globe. I am talking
about the war against the corrupting influence of the anti-Christ element
of our culture trying to push Christians and Christ Himself into the shadows
of irrelevance. A brief excerpt from history reveals this war in not new.
     In 1799, Dr Jedidiah
Morse, preached an election...

Should We Expect To Win?

Posted Jul 5th 2005, 05:43 by Brad Sherman/Purpose Ministries on Teaching/Education

Should
We Expect To Win?
Sometime it seems that we Christians are losing the culture wars. It
seems that the anti-prayer, pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, anti-family and
all things anti-Christian groups continue to advance their agendas while we Christians just keep "taking it on the chin." Many Christians have given
up on the idea of seeing our school systems, communities, and governments
return to biblical values, except on the occasion of Christ's return. As
Charles Surgeon has noted, because it chimes in with our own idleness,
this is...

Prepare for A Visitation

A
Visitation Is Coming
A Purpose Perspective
by Brad Sherman
During a recent Sunday morning service, the Lord began to give
me impressions concerning the fresh move of His Spirit that is coming.
First, let me say that it doesn't take prophetic insight to know that
a fresh move of God is coming. Anyone who understands Church history and
has any discernment of the times we live in can see that we (I speak of
the United States) are in a sort of spiritual lull....

A Second Look at the First Amendment

Posted Feb 15th 2005, 12:00 by Brad Sherman/Purpose Ministries on Teaching/Education

A
Second Look at the First Amendment
There is still a general feeling among
most of the Christian population that it is wrong to promote Christian
values above the values of other religions in the political arena. After
all, our government must be neutral and give all religions equal time.
That is what the First Amendment is all about. Right?
Without going into the tremendous body
of evidence to support it, I will simply say that the First Amendment was
not written to place Christianity on the same...

The Christian Position on Homosexuality

The
Christian Position on Homosexuality
In this Perspective Article, I wish to
address homosexuality, a very controversial issue in our culture. For those who find it difficult to articulate the Christian position
on this issue. I hope this brief article helps.
I will speak to five elements of this issue:
1) Is it
Sin?
2) Forgiveness
3) Sexual
Orientation at Birth
4) The
Effect on...

Truth Redefined

Truth
Redefined
The Redefining of Truth
History is the benchmark from which we
survey the future. Yet, we live in a day when history is often revised
and fabricated by unscrupulous individuals.
Years ago I was privileged to obtain a
facsimile edition of the 1828 edition of Noah Webster's Dictionary and
it has remained one of my favorite resource books. But it is more than
a dictionary; it is an archive of truth that helps preserve our very foundations!
For example, in the Webster 1828 dictionary,
the word immoral is...

Is American Another Roman Empire?

Posted Apr 5th 2004, 04:20 by Brad Sherman/Purpose Ministries on Teaching/Education

Is
America Another Roman Empire?
Recently, as I sat with a group of local
pastors, the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident and the issue of same-sex
marriage sparked a conversation about the moral decline in the United States
of America. We were all appalled at these things and, of course, very concerned.
As the conversation concluded the comment was made , "America is just like
the Roman Empire." The implication of the comment, as I took it, was that
the eventual destruction of our nation is...

Peer Jealousy

Peer
Jealousy
The political landscape of the world is
certainly a very complicated situation. The amount of wisdom needed by
those operating in that arena is immense and they need our prayers. But
on the other hand, the root of these problems is as simple as jealousy
and lust and as old as Cain and Abel. Abel's sacrifice was received by
the Lord and Cain's was not. Cain was jealous, lusted after his brother's
success, and killed him.
Where do wars and fights come
from among you? Do they...

Led Like Sheep

Led
Like Sheep
I was driving down the street a few days
ago and I came up behind a mail truck stopping at mail boxes every few
feet. What was unusual was the fact that there were 3 or 4 cars following
along which, for some reason, were not passing the mail truck. The drivers
were looking around and acting unsure, even though there was plenty of
room to pass. The best I could tell, here is what was going on.
One car was following the mail...
