Come
to the next gathering and share what God is saying to you about this kairos in
which we have found ourselves.

Slaughtering Sacred Cows: Part 3
"The
Felt-Presence of God"
by Frank Viola
I would like to say a word in preface about the following
article. In 1994, what came to be known as "the Toronto Blessing" hit
the United States.
Rodney Howard-Browne held his first convention in the Carpenter's Home Church
in Lakeland, Florida. That convention went on for weeks.
From there, it quickly spread to other parts of North America . . . most
notably Toronto, Canada;
Melbourne, Florida;
and Pensacola, Florida.
Upon hearing about the new move of God...

Dear Terry Somerville,
My name is also Terry and I pastored a church for 24 years.
At that time my church entered into Renewal, Toronto style, and we all jumped into the
River. The next 14 months were heaven on earth. We had strangers wandering into
the church off the street when we weren't advertising and they told us that
they were just walking/driving by...

Imprisoned Convert One of Thousands in Afghanistan
By GRETCHEN PETERS
KABUL, Afghanistan, March 27, 2006 — - The case of
Abdul Rahman, the Christian convert who faced a potential death penalty in
Afghanistan, may have shocked Americans, but for thousands of Afghans, it was a
glimpse of what could await them.
Rahman is expected to be released and shuttled out of Afghanistan
before any trial can resume, which would ease pressures on Afghan President
Hamid Karzai. Diplomats and human rights workers say the backdrop to the case
is...

New Wineskins for the 21st Century Church
By Terry Somerville
Over the past year or so, I've been contacted a number of
friends, telling me they are no longer pastors of local churches.
What's interesting is, their stories all have recurring themes.
1. Not one of them has fallen away from the faith. Some have
various stages of "church burnout", but they are increasingly
passionate for Jesus. Some noted a "divine discontent" about local
church ministry that wasn't there ten years ago.
2. They were all...

Faith Revolutionaries Stand Out From the
Crowd
March 6, 2006
(Ventura,
CA) – The controversy
fueled by George Barna’s current best-seller, Revolution, has raised many
questions about the nature of the people the California-based researcher labels
“revolutionaries.” Defined as born again people who have made their
faith in God the highest priority in their life, who believe that their faith
has greatly transformed their life, and who often express and experience their
faith through alternative forms the Church, Barna this week released additional
data about the beliefs, practices...

"There's No Pulpit Like Home"
by Rita Healy and David Van Biema ("Time

Denver, USA - On a Sunday at their modest, gray ranch
house in the Denver suburb of Englewood, Tim and Jeanine Pynes gather with
four other Christians for an evening of fellowship, food and faith. Jeanine's
spicy rigatoni precedes a yogurt-and-wafer confection by Ann Moore, none of the
food violating the group's solemn commitment to Weight Watchers. The
participants, who have pooled resources for baby sitting, discuss a planned

Divided Uniting

By Linda Morris Religious Affairs Writer

SOME Sydney
Uniting Church
congregations are said to be living off the "last gasps" of the Billy
Graham crusades and the Sunday School movement and could be all but extinct in
a single generation.
That view is expressed in a consultant's report on the health
of a large presbytery at Georges
River. It concludes that
the presbytery's member churches are almost universally in advanced stages of
decline.
With implications for the church nationally, the report, by

“The Shift of ‘2006”
By Dutch Sheets
Ministries will restructure, churches will restructure,
businesses will restructure, individuals will restructure, and families will
restructure.
This will be a year of the greatest change the church has
experienced in our generation. While preparing to minister in Dallas on January 5, I
heard the Holy Spirit very clearly say, “Tell them. . .” I
quickly grabbed a pen and wrote the following as it was...

Megachurches 'shallow in theology'
From correspondents in Porto
Alegre, Brazil
22-02-2006
THE head of the World Council of Churches has expressed
concern about the spread of megachurches around the world, such as Hillsong in
Sydney, saying they could lead to a Christianity that is "two miles long
and one inch deep".
The WCC General Secretary Samuel Kobia said megachurches -
huge Protestant churches with charismatic pastors, lively music and other
services - mostly ran on a business model to make worshippers feel good and
were shallow in their...
