Even the very best structure, system, style, and skills can't compensate completely for deficiencies in character. Why do you emphasize the importance of character in the lives of leaders?
Because I believe that character (what a person is) is ultimately more important than competence (what a person can do). Obviously both are important, but character is foundational. All else builds on this cornerstone. Also, I believe that courage and consideration are the key building blocks of emotional maturity, and that...

Gossip! - Melody Green
Posted Aug 14th 2007, 12:22 by Inner Life Ministries on Christian Living
I think the main reason that God is letting me share a little bit with you about the problem of gossip is because I'm no stranger to it. I have not only listened to gossip... I've also spread it and been the victim of it . . . and let me say it's all equally as painful to the Lord.
When I told people things I shouldn't have, I usually justified it by saying, "We really need to pray for so...
Making the Most of Your Devotions - George Mueller Edited and paraphrased by Matt Schoenfelder and Martin Bennett
Posted Aug 14th 2007, 12:09 by Inner Life Ministries on Christian Living
Introduction
If you are a Christian, your personal relationship with Jesus must take first priority in your life. But for many reasons, that daily quiet time with God may be the first thing to dissolve under time pressures, stress, and busy schedules. Of course we sometimes find ourselves in situations that require us to "pray as we go," but that should not be the norm for any believer. Every day each of us needs to stop, turn off the world, and...
Training Your Children for Christ - General William Booth
Posted Aug 14th 2007, 11:19 by Inner Life Ministries on Christian Living
[Edited and paraphrased by Martin Bennet]
There are certain things that parents must do - indeed, that only parents can do - if their children are to become true servants of God. I don't want to hide the fact that what I'm setting before you will not be gained without considerable difficulty, carefulness, and work. However, nothing truly good or great is ever accomplished without trouble. I am certain that for every intense hour and patient effort this work demands, parents...
Who Needs Quiet Time? You Do! - Fran Paris

The alarm clock rings.
Fifteen minutes later, you roll out of bed. Late again. With toothbrush in hand, you step into the shower where you have what passes for "devotions" - a hasty, "Good morning, Lord."
While getting dressed, you spot your Bible on the bedside table facing you like a leather-bound judgment.
"One of these days," you say to yourself, "I'll get my act together and have a regular Quiet Time..."
Some people just can't wait to get into...
"Say To Archippus..." - Chip Brogden

"And say to Archippus, 'Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it… remember my bonds'" (Colossians 4:17,18ff).
This personal footnote at the closing of Paul's letter to the Colossians deserves a closer look. Perhaps in this word of exhortation to Archippus someone may see an application to their situation today.
The ministry (as Scripture intends it) was not, and is not, a position of privilege or class distinction. It was never intended to...
A Short & Very Easy Method of Prayer: Chapter One - The Prayer of the Heart - Madam Guyon
Posted Jul 18th 2007, 10:38 by Inner Life Ministries on Christian Living
ALL are capable of prayer, and it is a dreadful misfortune that almost all the world have conceived the idea that they are not called to prayer. We are all called to prayer, as we are all called to salvation.
PRAYER is nothing but the application of the heart to God, and the internal exercise of love. St. Paul has enjoined us to "pray without ceasing;" (1 Thess. v.17) and our Lord bids us watch and pray, (Mark xiii. 33,37):...

1 Corinthians 4:1-2- Let a man so consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
It is in my heart to speak concerning a remarkable prophetic journey that I have been led to follow. I speak it at the risk of misunderstanding both by the body of Christ and the nation at large. But as in all prophecy we see in part...
Thou Shalt Offend Pharisees - Mark Batterson

I think we know a lot less about Jesus than we think we know. Or we've accepted a lot less about Jesus than we'd care to admit. We never get beyond the sanitized Sunday school version or the rationalized left-brain version. We're comfortable with left-brain Jesus. He's logical and predictable. But we don't know what to do with right-brain Jesus. He's a little too counter-intuitive for comfort. He's a little too unconventional, unpredictable and unorthodox.
Jesus was anything but...

Faith Laughs at Impossibilities - Leonard Ravenhill

Peter in prison! What a jolt!
We are too far removed from the actual scene to catch the atmosphere of dismay the Christians of that day felt.
Peter had moved from Pentecost to prison, from jeers to spears. He was guarded by sixteen soldiers. One wonders why such a defenseless man needed such a group to watch him. Could it be that Herod feared the supernatural, seeing he knew that Jesus escaped such a group that guarded Him?
Had Peter been hedged in...

We are told in Scripture that young men have visions, and old men have dreams. I am not quite sure where I fit, as Jesus came into my life during 1950. Looking back over these past years, I have been evaluating the word that I received when I was actively called to...
A New Breed of Leadership - Rick Joyner

[A Note from the Moderator, Joel Killion: The message you are about to read, which Rick released on 9/11/03, is relevant to our times. I believe this new breed of leadership is gathering at this time and I believe it will be gathered, for the most part, at The Call on 07.07.07. If you are a part of the God-called leadership that is about to be released, on a large scale, in the world and the church, I want to...

“I suspect I’ve got more in common with Jezebel and Ahab than with Elijah. I’m working to build a tolerant, pluralistic society that respects other faith traditions. I’ve devoted ten years of my life to calling the church to repentance and transformation, on account of its homophobia and heterosexism, its narrowness and its prejudice. I don’t have any sympathy for the austere Yahwehism of the prophet Elijah and his quick...
